When tens of thousands get involved at the same time: a look back at the European Week for Waste Reduction 2024
Die Europäische Woche der Abfallvermeidung (EWAV) ruft jährlich im November zu bewusstem Umgang mit Ressourcen auf. Der Beitrag gibt einen Rückblick auf die Aktionswoche 2024, die unter dem Motto „Bis zum letzten Krümel: Lebensmittel sorgsam verwenden“ auf die Vermeidung von Lebensmittelverschwendung fokussierte. Mit über 1.100 Aktionen in Deutschland und 13.000 europaweit war die Beteiligung rekordverdächtig. The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) calls for mindful resource use every November. This article looks back at the 2024 campaign week, which focused on reducing food waste under the EU wide motto „Food waste is out of taste“ (adaptated für tge German speaking participants: „To the last crumb: Use food with care“. With over 1,100 activities in Germany and 13,000 across Europe, participation reached record levels. The digital kick-off event, attended by nearly 200 participants, offered insights into research, retail, and innovative solutions such as apps to reduce food waste. Both the event and the week itself demonstrated that everyone can contribute through conscious action. The article also presents a selection of best-practice examples from 2024, showcasing how waste reduction can be successfully implemented in everyday life and the workplace. It concludes with a preview of the 2025 theme – reducing electronic waste – and calls for broad participation in the upcoming campaign week.
